TravelBlog Day 5: La Rochelle, France

Reading time: < 1 minute...

We docked at the port of La Pallice and after a short coach ride, we arrived at La Rochelle, a charming town peppered with small shops and half-timbered houses. We’re getting boring now, I know, but this is the third day in a row, where we’ve had scorching hot weather!

Historical note: Apparently, the founders of Montreal and others who colonised Canada, sailed from this port. In later years, during the second world war it was occupied by Germany and used to house U-boats.

A much bigger threat came in 2004, when armed with simply a credit card and and a pen, two Brits, with some restraint, took on the might of the retailing sector. A clear victory for the Brits!

Back to the ship now, for the obligatory deck-feast and sun-worshipping. A tough life, I know, but someone’s gotta do it! Bound for St Jean de Luz (near Biarritz) tomorrow…
