We’re planning to go to Kelmarsh Hall later today to see English Heritage’s ‘2010 Festival of History’. Ann’s friend Nicki joined and we just had time to whizz down to Lee’s to assemble her new bed and then returning home for a quick lunch.
By 12.30 lunch was almost ready, however, the weather still looked a bit grey for venturing off to Kelmarsh. As we ate, it absolutely poured down, more-or-less confirming that we wouldn’t be going out.
And then, just as we had decided we definitely would be staying in, it brightened-up a bit – so we decided to risk it. I’m glad we did, as it was a great afternoon at Kelmarsh. We got a perfect parking space and the sun eventually came out and stayed out!

English Heritage, as always, put on a good show, and today was no exception. The re-enactments are always so realistic and those taking part take it very seriously.

We saw Romans, the New Model Army, Knights jousting and Second World War soldiers in a German ambush – as well a fly past of a MkII Hurricane – marvellous stuff!

At the end, they had the regular ‘march-past’ taking the audience through 2000 years of military history.
We got home around 5.30. We’d already put the chilli in the slow-cooker, so it just needed some jacket potatoes and one of Ann’s desserts (cherry clafoutis) and we were set-up for the evening – perfect!
We settled down to watch the DVD: Solomon Kane, a dark, swashbuckling-cum-good-versus-evil-sword-and-sorcery fantasy adventure starring one of Ann’s fave ‘bits-of-rough’, James Purefoy. It wasn’t a bad film, but a bit bloody and quite scary in places. 
We’ve all had a good day. The improving weather helped…but so did the excellent food! It was great to see Nicki and she especially enjoyed the Festival of History
Nicki left around 9.30 and we’ve set-up another date for her to visit us again in September

I got into blogging quite late in life, not publishing my first post until 2004 – well into my 40s!
