We travelled over to Mundesley, as we did last year to take part in Caroline and Andrew’s Children-in-Need weekend at their B and B. This year’s theme is Abba/The 70s, so Ann and I bought some appropriate clothing from eBay. Scary stuff! Shoes that you need oxygen to wear and lycra body-suit that shows off …

Visit Roger, Jane and Oliver
We travelled down to Roger, Jane and Oliver’s. It’s probably the last time we’ll see them before Christmas and before Jane has her operation later this month. They’d prepared a SUPERB lunch (as always) – Roast lamb and a good range of veg, followed by apple pie all washed down with an excellent red wine. …

Play: “Under Milk Wood”
We travelled over to Stratford upon Avon to see “Under Milk Wood” directed by our good friend and business colleague, Ian McLean of Second Thoughts. We decided to drive over there a bit earlier so we could look round the shops and finish off the Christmas shopping! We were pretty successful, getting quite a few …

Meal with Paul and Sue
We met up with Paul and Sue in Rothwell for our normal quarterly get-together. We had decided to try out Franco’s, a new Italian Restaurant in the Rothwell House Hotel. The food was good, but the restaurant was almost empty – which was a shame! The waitress worked hard but there were some fundamentals that …

Doctor Who – Christmas 2008
Yippee! The first trailer is out for this year’s Christmas Special!
The eyes have it…
Time for my two-yearly eye check-up today. I’m pleased to report that they found two 🙂 and both seem to be working fine – although increasingly, I am struggling to read very small print. Then, it was off to meet my friend Malcolm Levene this afternoon in London. We haven’t seen each other for ages! …

Lunch with Steve S – not!
Steve was due to pop over for lunch today as part of our normal quarterly catch-up, but he forgot (and that’s very unlike him!) We’re going to set another date, very soon.
Busy Sunday
Phew, thank heavens for the weekend – it’s where you do nothing but relax! Yeah right!!! Ann spent most of the day cooking whilst I wrote the rest of the business Christmas cards. We then finished off the personal ones together. I think that’s a record for how early we’ve got them all finished.
Geek!
Yep, I admit it, I am!!! I managed to get hold of a 16Gb, – yes 16Gb – micro SD card for my phone from Expansys. Currently this is the largest capacity drive available. It probably means that I’ll soon be able to dispense with my separate USB stick for carrying data around with me.
Film: Quantum of Solace
With expectations for this film off the scale, it’s almost certain that it wouldn’t exceed, or even meet everyone’s! If seat availability at our local Odeon is anything to go by (we couldn’t get tickets until the 11am performance on Saturday, and it came out on Thursday), then I think it’s certainly a popular choice …

Meal with David and Val
We’re off for our regular monthly-meal with David and Val tonight. It’s a return to the excellent Han, a Chinese Restaurant in Market Harborough. Coincidentally, we were there with them both around the same time last year! As usual, the meal was excellent and so was the service. We left around 9.30 getting home at …

David Tennant leaves Doctor Who
Well, as many newspapers speculated some time back, David Tennant has decided to leave Doctor Who after the four ‘specials’ next year. I guess this was a difficult decision as he has really made the role his own – and even if you are not a Who fan, you can’t fail to be impressed by …

BBC iPlayer
I haven’t used this for a while and after the short download of the updated version, the picture and sound seemed to be much better quality. It gave me an opportunity to watch Series 7, episode 2 of ‘Spooks’ that I’d forgotten to add into the SkyPlus yesterday.
Impossible Holiday Pic!
Last Sunday we got together with Ralph and Karen to swap holiday photographs from the group-holiday-that-never-was! The photograph shows how it should have been, but the cock-up with the dates meant that Ann and I went a week prior to Ralph and Karen. As a laugh, we agreed to take a photograph of us in …

CD: The War of the Worlds – Collector’s Edition
In preparation for the 30th Anniversary Tour in June next year, I’ve blown the dust of this very special version of Jeff Wayne’s ‘The War of the World’s’ CD and converted them to MP3s. A spectacular SEVEN disc collection (6 CDs + 1 DVD) featuring all permutations of the Album, including Spanish, German versions too! …

Track information and MP3 capability on my Mondeo
I suppose I knew this all along, but I never got round to following it through. Ever since one of Ann’s CDs showed the track information when it played in the Mondeo, I’ve been wondering how it was done. Well, it’s called ‘CD-text’ and I’d vaguely heard of the concept, but had never found a …

Film: “The Illusionist”
We’d recorded this film and it had sat on the Sky+ box for over a week. I don’t think we were expecting it to be as good as it was. We certainly don’t remember coming out at the cinema in 2006. Starring Edward Norton as Eisenheim and Jessica Biel as Sophie, it tells the story …

It was the perfect day for polishing the car too! *Totally organised or totally sad? (delete as applicable)

We took a drive to Lincoln today to meet up with Bev, who we haven’t seen for a while. We arrived at 12.30 – after a frustrating journey that diverted us via Oundle. After a brief introduction to ‘Smokey’, Bev’s rabbit we headed for the Wharf for lunch. Bev suggested we tried ‘The Ultimate Burger’ …
