It’s another of our TV Dinners and Movie Nights with mates!

We’ve enjoyed a growing number of these in the past few years (see the bottom of this Post for the list so far). For us, they’re the perfect blend of the three Fs!good friends, good food and a good film! This was our 12th in recent years 😋😋

With us tonight were Nicki, Jo, Janet and Carol who joined us just before 5.30pm.

Dinner!

Ann was in the Galley and prepared a feast for us all. On tonight’s menu – being a Friday – it was Fish ‘n’ Chips! 👍😉😋. Hate Mushy Peas? Ann had us covered with the more traditional sort too! 👍

It all went down a treat! And if that wasn’t enough, we followed it with a homemade Orange & Almond Cake with Crème Fraîche – so yummy, I forgot to take any photos of it! 😮. We ate on our laps as the film’s long run-time.

OK, we’re going in!!

Rated 12 and running for a bladder-testing 3 hours 17 minutes, this was a difficult one to rate. On one hand, we all marvelled at the sheer imagination that went into the story and how it looked, on screen! James Cameron is another of those Directors who likes to ‘think big’ – and this one was absolutely massive in scope and vision. The storyline, however, was err, ‘challenging’, where other less generous folk might have labelled it, ‘incomprehensible’, instead! ☹️☹️☹️☹️. Plenty of famous faces in this one, although you’d be hard pushed to spot who-was-who beneath the CGI-ness of it all! 🔍

On one level this was a sci-fantasy tale on a grand scale – think Star Wars on steroids (good vs evil/man vs machine/hope vs destiny etc etc), whilst on another level, it was allegorical, exploring the reality of humanity and nature working in harmony. No-one would consider this a lightweight story by any means, and it required a lot of concentration to stay on top of it. Consequently, tonight, the pause button was used frequently to cater for loo breaks (remember the run-time!), food preparation and drinks refills! 😉. You couldn’t really afford to miss any of it to stay ahead of the curve, and it certainly wasn’t one to watch if you’d had one too many glasses of grape! And, even though we tried (we really did!) there were moments where – speaking personally – my brain was whispering: “what is going on here… and more importantly, why?

🤯🤯🤯🤯

Overall, did it matter that some of us hadn’t seen, or couldn’t remember the previous two instalments in the series? Yes, probably definitely! With that in mind, and you are following in footsteps, if you can’t manage BOTH of the previous films in the series, then rewatching the very first, is a must! 👍

As the final credits rolled at just after 9.30pm, we were shattered! The sheer amount of brain cells required to keep up with what was going on had left us confused/confounded/impressed in (roughly) equal measure.

Phew!
🥱😴
