It’s another of our TV Dinners and Movie Nights with mates! Tonight, it’s The Mandalorian and Grogu released earlier this year in Cinemas and available, digitally, courtesy of Amazon Prime.
We’re getting into a rhythm with our Movie Nights (see the bottom of this Post for the list so far). Film, Food and Friends – perfect!
And this was our 13th 😋😋. In the audience tonight: Jo, Janet – and of course, Ann.
On the Menu..
Tempting our tastebuds tonight was Salmon with a panko breadcrumb topping (and optional Hollandaise Sauce) with Baked Jackets, Oven-baked Courgettes and Garden Peas. Fish isn’t my usual first-choice, but this was super-scrummy! 😋

OK, we’re going in!!
This movie spin-off from the very successful Disney+ series had been on my list for a while. We all missed it the first time around back in May, when it hit the cinemas, so it was good to be able to catch up in the comfort of our own home. All helped along, of course, with a yummy Supper, courtesy of Ann! 💖
But was it any good? Given that technically, it was considered to be a commercial ‘flop’ (only taking $344m at the Box Office), was it as bad as the bank balance suggested? $344m??? 🤔. It sounds fine to me given the budget of $165m. But apparently not. I read recently that having taken into account the marketing costs and all the other ‘bits and bobs’ that go with making a movie successful these days, total costs came in at a whopping £265m-$320m! 😮
Ouch! That’s a bit close!
Forgetting the finances then, from a purely entertainment viewpoint, we all thoroughly enjoyed it – even Ann, who usually avoids sci-fi movies like the plague! Just over two hours later, we’d enjoyed a good ol’ fashioned good vs evil plot supported by excellent special effects – and who can resist ‘Baby Yoda’ – aka Grogu? Think of a typical ‘Western’ but with spaceships! The humans, meanwhile, acted their socks off, which was tough, given that (like many films of this genre) they’d been acting in a totally green-screen environment. If you like or love the Star Wars franchise, you’ll enjoy this one! 👍
I actually can’t understand why it didn’t do better on the big screen. Those in the know suggest that audiences just weren’t used to seeing the characters on the BIG SCREEN (given that the initial success was in a Disney+ series via your humble TV!). Perhaps that’s why WE enjoyed it so much!? 🤔. Also in its favour was the storyline itself. Compared to our other recent film night – Avatar – Fire and Ash, this had a much simpler plot, so almost no brain required – just knives and forks and a comfy seat! 👍👍👍👍
Maybe, sometimes, small screen and a simple plot is the magic formula! 🤝
