Yes, bang on time, it must be Christmas (or close to it!) Why? The John Lewis Christmas Advert just launched at 8am this morning! As many of you know, I normally post about their annual offering. As an aside, JL wasn’t the first this year, with both Tesco and Sainsbury getting there first, launching theirs on 1st November!
Tesco
Sainsbury
Back to John Lewis. This one is JL’s 17th (!!) since they began the trend of the big retailers spending mega-amounts on cinema-quality festive productions.
Click below to watch 2026’s – it’s called ‘Gloria and Pickles’ – and stars BAFTA-winning Dame Kirsten Scott Thomas as ‘Gloria’ and the voice Paul Whitehouse as ‘Pickles’. With the tagline of ‘Don’t Give Up On Giving’, it tells the familiar story of grandparents not knowing what to buy their grandchildren for Christmas. The Soundtrack is by Sam Fender (BBC’s ‘ Sound of 2018′) and provides a moving cover of the 1969 Rolling Stones’ classic “You Can’t Always Get What You Want“, backed by a choir of schoolchildren from Sam’s hometown of North Shields accompanied by the Easington Colliery Band. As always, there’s a charity connection where proceeds from the single go to the Teenage Cancer Trust and Action for Children.
What makes JL’s stand out, it they’re normally very mushy in style and this year’s was no different. In fact, if there was such a thing as a ‘mushometer’ and it ranged from ‘0’ to ”10′, how would you score it? Go on, have a watch! 🤔
Hhhmmm! What did you think of it? 👍👎. I’d give it a ‘7’ on the mushometer!
Here’s a reminder of JL’s previous festive ads, together with their links…

I got into blogging quite late in life, not publishing my first post until 2004 – well into my 40s! My lifelong love of technology and communication (in all its forms), together with a fondness for the art of writing seemed to be the perfect combination to contribute a few words to the online community. But I’m no Samuel Pepys! If you’re looking for deep and meaningful comments on a variety of subjects, then you’ve arrived at the wrong site! I only pen for pleasure! On average, my posts appear about twice per month, covering family & friends, cinema visits, eating out, holiday experiences and techy stuff. Oh, and as this is my hobby, there are no sponsored links nor adverts here – it’s all done with love!
I hope you find it enjoyable, interesting and occasionally, even helpful!
