John Lewis Christmas Advert (2023)

Reading time: 2 minutes...

In spite of me being a bit of a fan of these, I nearly missed this one when it was launched today at 7.30am UK time. Good job my friend Geoff was on the ball and let me know (and he was in Cyprus!) 👍😁. Cheers, Geoff!

Creepy!

This year, John Lewis has gone more light-hearted compared to its traditional ‘completely-tug-the-heart-strings’ approach, although there is a ‘something-in-my-eye’ moment at the end. It’s slightly creepy though (or is that just me?)

Oh, just me then! 😱

It stars the almost obligatory (for JL) young child with an unusual friend. And if that sounds a bit ‘samey’ don’t worry, there’s some rock opera thrown in this year, courtesy of tenor, Andrea Bocelli. The tune was specially commissioned from the Italian electropop artist called Le Feste Antonacci, (nope, me neither!). Interestingly, this is a significant departure by JL from the usual formula of taking a well-known track and reworking it. The song is called ‘Festa’ and will be released as a (longer) single with the profits going to charities including Action for Children.

Having watched it, you won’t need quite as many tissues with this one, compared to previous years, but it’s still an OK watch.

Anyway, make up your own mind, and if it’s not your thing, check out all their previous festive offerings…
