Yes, it’s that time of year again – The annual John Lewis Christmas Advert! 🎅. Right on cue too, as pretty much every year it’s the first week in November.
Usually, the first look any of the public get is at 8am, when it’s released across social media. This year was a little different though! Those with John Lewis accounts were emailed first thing to give them a ‘private’ viewing from the unGodly hour of 6am on the John Lewis App! 😮.
This year’s offering is entitled The Beginner and strays a little from the ‘full-on’ Christmassy-theme of previous years. What remains the same is the re-recording of a familiar song as its soundtrack. For 2022, it’s a reworked version of All the Small Things by Blink-182. American singer, actor and entertainer Mike Geier performs this new version of the classic song.
The story is about a man attempting to master the skateboard – and failing miserably! At this stage, we’re not sure why!
I think you’ll still need your tissues by the end, but a quick straw-poll afterwards around these parts suggested that this one too, was a bit ‘Marmite’ in its reception. Some loved it, and some did not!
This year, JL teamed up with Action for Children and Who Cares? Scotland and has developed a range of related merchandise where they’ll donate 25% of each sale to their Building Happier Futures fund.
Go watch and make up your own mind! 👍👎

I got into blogging quite late in life, not publishing my first post until 2004 – well into my 40s! My lifelong love of technology and communication (in all its forms), together with a fondness for the art of writing seemed to be the perfect combination to contribute a few words to the online community. But I’m no Samuel Pepys! If you’re looking for deep and meaningful comments on a variety of subjects, then you’ve arrived at the wrong site! I only pen for pleasure! On average, my posts appear about twice per month, covering family & friends, cinema visits, eating out, holiday experiences and techy stuff. Oh, and as this is my hobby, there are no sponsored links nor adverts here – it’s all done with love!
I hope you find it enjoyable, interesting and occasionally, even helpful!
