It’s another ‘fish-chips-mushy peas-and-a-film-night’ here tonight. Jo, Janet and Lee popped round (it was Lee’s birthday too!) and the consensus for which film to watch was Shutter Island starring Leo Di Caprio and directed by Martin Scorsese. Actually, the choice was pretty easy, as it was the only ones in my new batch that was in English – as for some bizarre reason, all the others were in another language – Mulan (Chinese) and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Swedish). So, they’re all for another night, when my brain is more alert!!!
With everyone is position, and Ann’s place on the ceiling 
clearly marked for when the scary bits came on, we settled down for a film that had come highly rated by most critics.
The plot? Teddy Daniels is assigned to investigate the disappearance of a patient from Boston’s Shutter Island Ashecliffe Hospital. He’s got personal reasons for going there too and he soon discovers some ethical and down-right weird medical practices going on (cue sinister music!!!!).
Well, this was a really atmospheric film – more spooky than scary. If you like your scary movies to be more thought-provoking than blood-splattering, then this is for you. It kept all of us on the edge of our seat, (and sent Ann to bed ahead of time!!!). For me, this was one of the best films I’ve seen this year. It ran for over two hours, but I reckon every minute was worth it – and especially the final forty-five minutes where the storyline came together and all was revealed!
