We had a bit of a lazy day today. Jo and Janet popped in this morning to exchange Christmas pressys! – Nice!
Lee and Humberto for Christmas
Lee and Humberto arrived this afternoon and are staying with us until the 27th. Picked Ann up after her gruelling three days at Kettering JS! Got a refund on my varifocal glasses – I just can’t get on with them.
Mum for Christmas
Picked Mum up for Christmas today – She had a fall yesterday near her flat yesterday, leaving her with a cut on her nose and a slight black-(left)eye. Left home at 4am and had a good journey down (just over two hours) but the travelling conditions were very bad. Rain and fog. Yukk! We had …

Mozy unlimited
I’ve now upgraded to ‘Mozy Unlimited’. As the title suggests, this gives me an unlimited storage capacity on the Mozy servers. I think the next big chunk of important data to back-up is going to be my MP3 collection currently running at 40 Gb. The cost of the upgrade was releatively small – a few …

Speed Workshop
Good news from the Speed Workshop I attended a few weeks back. I received a letter this morning advising me that they’ve withdrawn the pending three points. Phew!!!! An interesting FAQ HERE about Speed Cameras in Northamptonshire.
‘Up North…’
I had to visit a client in Bradford today, so afterwards I caught up with Dave B for a coffee at Starbucks just off of junction 27 of the M62. Quite a drive – but worth it on both counts! Crappy weather though – rain, fog and -1 degrees C when I …

Cholesterol Result 2006
Well, that’s good news. I received the results of my blood test from last week today. My cholesterol result is ‘4.2’ – which is on the ‘right side’ of 5! Looks like the tablets are helping! Met up with John M, one of my clients for our annual Christmas lunch/get-together. We went to ‘Moot Hall’ …

Surprise belated 50th Birthday pressy!
Ralph and Karen surprised me with a belated 50th Birthday pressy. They weren’t able to make the original party due to other commitments. They bought me a pair of Bluetooth wireless headphones for my iPOD – Brilliant!!!
Ralph and Karen to stay…
Ralph and Karen joined us for the weekend. It was great to see them again! We all went to one of our favourite Restaurants round here – ‘The Pheasant’ at Keyston. A truly excellent meal and the service was first class. You can see their menu HERE. Find the Restaurant HERE.
Good Technology Day
It looks as if I may have solved the problem with my XDA. In truth, I’m not sure what I did to fix it though… 🙂 I rolled back to an earlier version of ‘PhoneAlarm’ (although I’m pretty sure that wasn’t the problem). I then restored an old data backup after hard resetting the device …

Bad Technology Day!
Oooo-errr! My XDA has stopped popping up reminders. It’s been playing up for a few days now. After the first hard reset it seemed OK and then today, it reverted back to its bad behaviour. If that’s not enough, the alarm function has stopped working too! I’ve hard reset the device three or four times …

Christmas Tree

Meal with Jane and Mick
We went to the Montagu Arms tonight with Jane and Mick for our annual Christmas ‘meet-up’. We had a great meal and it was good to catch up with all of their news. Jane has gone ‘straight’ with her hair – it really suits her. By a strange coincidence, our neighbours Val and David (who …

Choir – The Cecilian Singers
We drove to Leicester this evening to see and hear David in concert (in a very nice building owned by Leicester University). He is the Chairman of the ‘Cecilian Singers’, a small group of very professional ‘Sally Army’ choristers. We think there about 100 or so people there in total. It was a great mix …

Back-up complete!
So, the back-up that I started last Thursday using Mozy has completed. No glitches and considering there’s quite a few files ‘up there’, the ‘test’ restore process worked quickly and effectively!
Dinner with Mags and Ian
An excellent meal and a chance to catch-up as I haven’t seen Mags for quite a while!
Speed Workshop
Today, I attended my ‘Speed Workshop’. A strange title really, as I obviously don’t need a Workshop in speeding!! The event was held in Northampton and was offered in lieu of acquiring three points on my Drivers Licence. See these blogs HERE and HERE for the gory details, how I got caught and the surprise …

Cat Bath/Out with the Neighbours
Biscuit and Bon-BonWe took Biscuit and Bon-Bon for their routine ‘bath-dry-groom’ and ‘maim-the-handlers’ today. Apparently, Bon-Bon is the aggressive one whilst Biscuit takes in all in her stride! Meal with Karen, Paul, Julie and TomWe went out for a meal for our great neighbours to celebrate Julie and Paul’s birthday (both next week). We popped …

Data backup begins…
I started to backup all my Client data to Mozy today. It’s obviously going to be a BIG job! It’s around 13 Gigabytes of data and we only have a sloooooow broadband connection here (1 Meg). I reckon between four and seven days running 24 hours a day…
Wrapping Christmas presents (2)
Found some time today to wrap up Ann’s pressies as well as most of our Anniversary pressies too! I also got the Christmas pre-franked ready for the trek to the Post Office later this month. Busy Busy! 🙂
Technology Day
Although I’ve been quite busy with work, I’ve managed to thoroughly test out Mozy and install AVG’s latest Security Suite on all the PCs Mozy is an online back-up service that gives anyone 2Gb of online storage for free. That’s not enough for my needs so I chose the MobyPlus option that offers an eye-watering …

Wrapping Christmas presents
We spent a large part of the day wrapping the Christmas presents. A few tree presents still to do, but I think we’ve cracked it!
Janet and Nigel
Janet and Nigel came to lunch. It’s long overdue, but it took us this long to sort out a date that worked for all of us. Janet was the breeder of our two cats. Her web site is HERE. It was great to see them both. The cats behaved themselves too!
Holiday – Day 4 (Ironbridge)
We’re taking it easy today. Unusually for Ann (VERY unusually), she was unwell during the night. We can’t determine whether it’s a bug or something she ate yesterday. We’ve mostly eaten the same things and I’m unaffected – strange! Inside, we finished the Christmas cards today – almost 200 of them! Phew! Outside, the weather …

Another lay in ’til 7. Weather looks ‘yuk’ today. Cold and wet, so it’s not really a day for site-seeing. …but it’s a perfect day for some retail-therapy!! Holiday – Day 2 (Ironbridge)
We had a short lay-in and after breakfast, we took a walk west and took in the sites. We visited the ‘Museum of Iron’ and ‘Enginuity’ (geddit?) which was a museum designed for kids (and us!) to experience science through hands-on games and exhibits such as controlling dams and building earthquake-proof constructions etc. Finished off …

Holiday – Day 1 (Ironbridge)
A good run in the car. We used the M6 Toll Road and it only took around and hour-and-a-half to get to Telford. An overcast day, with rain on-and-off. We spent most of the day shopping, getting the final lot of Christmas pressies in the Telford shopping centre. We’ve still got a few to get, …
