I’m just not getting into this series at all – and that surprises me! This was a good story, with some great performances, including fan-boy, Frank Skinner, who, acted his socks off, and was believable throughout – and would maybe make a good future companion!
I’m not sure what it is, I just feel something is missing. Peter Capaldi makes a convincing (but hard-to-love) Doctor, and the stories (mostly) have been well written. The production values are great and the hype surrounding each episodes has been well-managed and not overdone. The ‘soap’ element for me, is not why I watch the programme, but that doesn’t dominate the storylines, so I don’t think it’s the luvvy-duvvy Clara/Danny thing that’s irritating me.
Then, in a brief moment of clarity, I think I might have answered my own question! I think it’s because I really (really! REALLY!) like long story-arcs, where there’s a ‘bigger picture’ going on in parallel to the main story – and there doesn’t seem to be much of that in evidence so far, apart from the occasional reference to ‘the promised land’. Additionally, I always thought that Clara was such an important part of the Doctor’s existence, but increasingly, her role seems to be less and less significant, as each new episode airs – I’m missing that too!
I’m sure it’ll all come together as we head towards the end of the series, but for this fan-boy, it’s all feeling a bit pedestrian so far!
I got into blogging quite late in life, not publishing my first post until 2004 – well into my 40s! My lifelong love of technology and communication (in all its forms), together with a fondness for the art of writing seemed to be the perfect combination to contribute a few words to the online community. But I’m no Samuel Pepys! If you’re looking for deep and meaningful comments on a variety of subjects, then you’ve arrived at the wrong site! I only pen for pleasure! On average, my posts appear about twice per month, covering family & friends, cinema visits, eating out, holiday experiences and techy stuff. Oh, and as this is my hobby, there are no sponsored links nor adverts here – it’s all done with love!
I hope you find it enjoyable, interesting and occasionally, even helpful!
