With the breakfast (routine running like a well oiled oily thing from oily town) over, we did separate things today. Roger, Jane and Oliver went off to ride on a steam train, whilst Ann and I slipped into castle-mode. First stop was Richmond, where the quaint town was also entertaining a fun-fair (as if the Jubilee weekend wasn’t enough of an excuse for a celebration!)

Then it was off to our next one – Middleham Castle. This one was a bit more of a ruin, but still worth looking around.

By 2.30, we were all castled-out, so we headed back to base, and after a quick cuppa dropped into Fountain’s Abbey to catch the 3.30 House Tour. Unfortunately, they weren’t running any today because of the Jubilee Celebrations, so we walked back to the cottage to catch the tail-end of the Celebrations on TV plus a re-run of the Jubilee Concert.
Roger, Jane and Oliver arrived back from their expedition around 6 o’clock and after spending a short time explaining what we’d each been up to, we put all our efforts into the evening meal. Tonight, it was lasagne and salad – and that certainly helped with the fridge’s stock levels. For the rest of the time that we’re here, we’re going to attempt to eat our way through what’s left in there, but even with our appetites, it’s going to be a challenge!
After the meal, Ann and I took our regular walk around the gardens, but the rain had returned so we abandoned it half-way round. The forecast is suggesting showers tomorrow, so we’re planning to drive over to York and take the park-and-ride into the city.
I got into blogging quite late in life, not publishing my first post until 2004 – well into my 40s! My lifelong love of technology and communication (in all its forms), together with a fondness for the art of writing seemed to be the perfect combination to contribute a few words to the online community. But I’m no Samuel Pepys! If you’re looking for deep and meaningful comments on a variety of subjects, then you’ve arrived at the wrong site! I only pen for pleasure! On average, my posts appear about twice per month, covering family & friends, cinema visits, eating out, holiday experiences and techy stuff. Oh, and as this is my hobby, there are no sponsored links nor adverts here – it’s all done with love!
I hope you find it enjoyable, interesting and occasionally, even helpful!
