Good news for fans of this series – Being Human. Not only has the BBC commissioned a second, but there’s a ‘special’ on BBC3 on 28 March. Digital Spy reports that it’ll contain interviews with the stars and the Director and Writer, Toby Whithouse, followed by a re-run of the first three episodes.
Based on a successful pilot episode last year, the resulting short series was tucked away on BBC3, at a time when most of us ‘old-uns’ had gone to bed. It followed the lives (used in its broadest sense) of a ghost, a werewolf and a vampire who share a house in Bristol – Initially, it sounds like an absurd concept for a series – Buffy meets Man about the House it isn’t!
Although billed as a comedy-drama, it’s pretty dark in places and definitely not something your granny would enjoy – the humour’s not the laugh-out loud type either, and the (few) scenes of violence are very realistic.
…but it all worked very well. The acting by the three leads – Aidan Turner, Russell Tovey and Lenora Crichlow was just superb!
If you missed it first time around and are wondering what all the fuss is about, I’d recommend watching the ‘Special’. The acting, the storylines plus a very, very, (very) good script made it one of those few shows worth looking forward to. As I’ve said before in these blogs, if this doesn’t migrate to BBC2 (or even BBC1), I’ll be very surprised. This does feel as if it’s got the makings of a cult-show on the scale of Doctor Who if it’s handled correctly.
