Landed on time at Johannesburg after a very relaxing 10 hour flight. Now the tricky bit, finding the Avis car-hire desk. It should be obvious, but clearly, the locals don’t think any signage is necessary! Found it eventually. The car is not bad, a cherry red 2 litre automatic Ford Focus. It’s a four-door saloon, which I think is unusual.
So, it’s now 11am and we have a 500 kilometre plus car journey to our first hotel “Cleopatra Mountain Farmhouse” run by Richard and Mouse Poynton
A great journey down, on a very, VERY hot day. It touched 35 degrees at one point. We stopped a few times along the way. The final few kilometres was along an unmade road – plenty of very large potholes.
Arrived around 5ish to a very warm welcome and the threat 🙂 of a six-course meal later plus a choice of wines from their cellar. We’re going to get an hour’s shut-eye to conserve our strength for the cellar visit. Temperature now is a cool 30 degrees.
TV is crap – only a few channels – and there is absolutely zero mobile signal. Oh joy!
More on the six-courser tomorrow!
I got into blogging quite late in life, not publishing my first post until 2004 – well into my 40s! My lifelong love of technology and communication (in all its forms), together with a fondness for the art of writing seemed to be the perfect combination to contribute a few words to the online community. But I’m no Samuel Pepys! If you’re looking for deep and meaningful comments on a variety of subjects, then you’ve arrived at the wrong site! I only pen for pleasure! On average, my posts appear about twice per month, covering family & friends, cinema visits, eating out, holiday experiences and techy stuff. Oh, and as this is my hobby, there are no sponsored links nor adverts here – it’s all done with love!
I hope you find it enjoyable, interesting and occasionally, even helpful!
