We’d all had very busy weeks, so it was great to be able to meet-up with D and V for a meal. This time, we chose The Shuckburgh Arms in Stoke Doyle near Oundle. David had had it recommended to him, so we thought we’d give it a try.
On arrival, we noticed it was quite a small place, and it was already busy. We were given the option of going to the Bar first or straight to our table – we chose the latter.
There were two menus – a la carte and the ‘specials’ (which offered ‘deals’ for a fixed price) but bizarrely, some items were on both. Anyway, we all chose pretty quickly and after a while we were soon tucking into our starters. First impressions were good and we really enjoyed the food.
Then mains arrived, and the first thing we noticed was the size of the portions – massive! These were equally delicious and had a real home-cooked feel about them. Even I was feeling very full! But, in spite of that, I ventured into pudding territory – and that was delicious too.
By now we were all feeling very full and very tired and although it took an age to get the bill, it was worth the wait as the ‘numbers’ were so attractive. Check this: 3×2 courses + 1×3 courses + drinks all round, twice – total bill: £71.10! Amazing value for four people! – probably the cheapest we’ve eaten out in a restaurant for a long, long time.
We all agreed that we’ll be coming back again…and again! in the future.
I got into blogging quite late in life, not publishing my first post until 2004 – well into my 40s! My lifelong love of technology and communication (in all its forms), together with a fondness for the art of writing seemed to be the perfect combination to contribute a few words to the online community. But I’m no Samuel Pepys! If you’re looking for deep and meaningful comments on a variety of subjects, then you’ve arrived at the wrong site! I only pen for pleasure! On average, my posts appear about twice per month, covering family & friends, cinema visits, eating out, holiday experiences and techy stuff. Oh, and as this is my hobby, there are no sponsored links nor adverts here – it’s all done with love!
I hope you find it enjoyable, interesting and occasionally, even helpful!
