The One Elm – Stratford
Whilst petrol-heads from around the globe went into collective shock over the news of the suspension of the iconic Jeremy Clarkson for punching a BBC Director (allegedly!) – Mags, Ian and I opted for something far less controversial, and got together for our regular three-monthly catch-up and gossip-fest. I parked at Ian’s and we walked into Stratford town meeting Mags who was already there.
Our restaurant of choice this time around was The One Elm in Guild Street. As things turned out, this was an inspired choice. The service was superb, and apart from a temporary glitch with Ian’s broccoli, the food was excellent. Although the restaurant was almost empty when we arrived at 7, but by the time we left, it was doing a really good trade.
I managed to weave my way around the menu, and stick to my Lent restrictions, opting for the soup, fish, and finally, a (very) sticky-toffee pudding, sans ice-cream. Curiously, we we given a small dish of Smarties too with the coffee-course!

My guilt-free Lent Meal
’Giggle of the Evening’ was probably when we were choosing from their wide range of desserts:
Ian: “I’m not sure whether to go for the Rhubarb Compote or not…”
Steve: “ Go on, force yourself!”
(Well, it made me laugh!)

After a couple of hours righting the world and catching up on each others’ news, it was time to say our goodbyes, until the next time (The Lamport Swan) in June.
Ian and I then walked back to his, and I was then on my way home. It was a trouble-free journey, and I was indoors just after 10.30pm (dirty stop-out!!!)![]()
I got into blogging quite late in life, not publishing my first post until 2004 – well into my 40s! My lifelong love of technology and communication (in all its forms), together with a fondness for the art of writing seemed to be the perfect combination to contribute a few words to the online community. But I’m no Samuel Pepys! If you’re looking for deep and meaningful comments on a variety of subjects, then you’ve arrived at the wrong site! I only pen for pleasure! On average, my posts appear about twice per month, covering family & friends, cinema visits, eating out, holiday experiences and techy stuff. Oh, and as this is my hobby, there are no sponsored links nor adverts here – it’s all done with love!
I hope you find it enjoyable, interesting and occasionally, even helpful!
