Holiday: Day 30 – Farewell New Zealand

Reading time: 2 minutes...

6.45am: Morning all!. Phew! πŸ˜‰. After more than a 1000 photographs and almost 2900 kilometres (c1800 miles) of driving, today, we say goodbye to New Zealand!

We’ve packed/unpacked 13 times, stayed in 5 motels, 5 apartments, 2 B&Bs plus 1 hotel – and written daily about our 27-day adventure! Do you know what? I think we might need a holiday to recover!!!! πŸ˜€πŸ˜€

Day 30 of 33

Day 30 – Where are we?
(Thursday, 28th November)

Arriving at Queenstown Airport

9.25am: We’re not quite done yet though! We left Arrowtown in New Zealand, heading for the airport in Queenstown.

We planned to kill some time at the Airport and then were hoping to take the flight to Sidney at 3.05pm – the SQ6683. I say ‘hoping’, but it then all went horribly wrong! First the plane was delayed arriving because of the weather, and then they discovered the plane WAS TOO HEAVY, so they had to ditch some passengers (luckily, not us!). In the end, we took off just after 3.30pm – not a great start! Then, my phone chirped into life with more disappointing news…

‘Retimed’???? That’s an interesting way of putting it!

5.35pm: Hello Sydney!! I’m beginning to hate flying! So much hanging about!!! πŸ˜•. Allowing for the two-hour time difference between NZ and Sydney, we eventually passed through Security and found ourselves a comfy spot to waste a couple of hours. Still, on a positive note, it gave us longer to admire what they’ve done with the Airport since we were last here back in 2019. Gate 58 and the adjacent Gates looked super-shiny and very new!

Super-shiny Sydney Airport

With our next stop – Singapore – in mind, the latest delay meant that instead of us taking off at 7.10pm, we were not going anywhere until 7.55pm – again because of the apparent bad weather. Luckily, this plane wasn’t overweight! 😬, but it did mean we would be later getting to our final hotel.

7.50pm: We’re boarding shortly! See you in 8 hours! πŸ‘

2.16am: Hello again! Yes, it’s almost time to get up. It’s a late one! A very late one! Or early, depending on how you look at it! We just checked in to the Holiday Inn Express in Clarke Quay at silly ‘o’clock aka 2.04am Friday, in Singapore. My body clock is so confused and my brain hurts… I was up just before 7am this morning, which by my calculation, means I’ve been up almost exactly 24 hours! Can I go to bed now? 😴😴

Holiday Inn Express – Clarke Quay, Singapore

Singapore? Weren’t you both there recently? Yes, we were (do try and keep up, ‘cos I’m beginning NOT to!!!) 29 days ago at the beginning of this mega-adventure.

For those wondering what New Zealand was like, stay tuned! For the benefit of those who might be considering a similar trip, we’ll summarise our twenty-seven day experience in NZ in a couple of days on here.

2.32am: So, here we are at the Holiday Inn, and there’s just one thing left to do – go to bed! Just time for a few pics of our room before we crash out…

Tomorrow, Later, at some point! πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€, we’re going to take a relaxed wander around the local area. Sleep well, I have a feeling that I won’t! ☹️☹️
