The Journey

Reading time: < 1 minute...

I met up with Ian today in London, near the Houses of Parliament. First up was the historical part of our day, where we visited the Jewel House, the Chapter House and Pyx Chamber and then, after a brisk walk taking us past Buckingham Palace (and an ice-cream van), we ended up at Wellington Arch, courtesy of English Heritage.

Then, after a bite to eat at Cote, Kensington, we took the short walk back to the Royal Albert Hall for today’s main event – Rick Wakeman’s 40th Anniversary Tour of Journey to the Centre of the Earth.

We had pretty good seats, ‘up in the Gods’ in a Box for four – and only two of us! – perfect! – and in spite of the photographs above, indicating the contrary (they were taken as soon as we were seated), it was a full-house.

It was a faultless production in my view: not a bum note to be heard, and it was good that Rick hadn’t lost his skills as a raconteur either. A great event all round!!!

Because of the Tube strike, we left before the encores, and were lucky enough to get a taxi more-or-less immediately, and I was home just before 1am (almost time to get up then!!!!)

It’s been a great day with a great friend – a bit of culture, a ‘99’, and a mighty fine performance from RW!!
