Another milestone today, as Sony, the last remaining manufacturer of floppy-disks, announces it will stop production next year.

When I first got into computers back in the late 80s, these disks held 700k of data – a massive amount, and it was all that was needed. A box of 10 lasted forever! Then, they launched a 1.44 Mb version – astounding!! Then they made them in different colours.

Compare all that with storage today and we have, for the desktop, 2Tb drives – a 1 000 000 times the capacity. For the mobile phone, we have 32Gb microSD cards – 32 000 times the capacity and a 50th of the size – just amazing!!!
