We drove down to the south coast today to meet-up with Sharon and Ian – and to make a long(ish) weekend of it. We’re home Sunday afternoon and we’re going to drop-in and see Mum on the way back.
The weather steadily improved on the way down and we arrived at The World’s End pub and restaurant just after 12.15. Ian and Sharon (with Charley) had arrived before us and settled in the beer-garden. I knew they were there because I saw Ian’s recent acquisition – his rather excellent blue open top Volvo C70, parked out front.
We didn’t take long to choose our lunch and drinks and the swift service meant we were soon tucking-in. The temperature was gorgeously warm and it was great to sit outside.
We had a bit of a catch-up with each others’ news and then Sharon had to shoot off. So we decided to head for our hotel, and Ian, Charley, Ann and I more-or-less left together. We’ve agreed to meet-up at 10.30 tomorrow to look around Bognor Regis, and if time permits, we’re then going on to Chichester.
The highlight of the day, tomorrow is going to be the gourmet meal round at Ian and Sharon’s – they won it at one of their charity auctions recently. In fact, we did a similar thing with them back In January 2009, where we won the same prize then too!!! The only down-side (just like last time) was that Sharon (with Lesley, her helper) was the chef, so she didn’t get to sit down with us!
After leaving the pub, we headed for the hotel, but stopped off to look around the shops in Bognor first. Hhhhmmm, they were pretty average, but at least it gave us an opportunity to buy a lottery ticket for the 112 million Euro roll-over tonight – you never know!
Around 3.15, we arrived at the Beachcroft hotel. The car-park was packed, but we did manage to get the last space (although it did become a lot emptier later on). As I jumped out of the car, the smell of the sea/seaweed was overwhelming – I guess we really are near the sea (but I couldn’t see it). Checking-in was a breeze, but there weren’t any rooms left with a view – unless you count the view out of room 1 into the overflow car-park!
4.15pm: After unpacking, we hit the beach – plenty of stones…but not much sand – in spite of the blue sky, it all looked pretty bleak!
We stopped off at the Cafe/restaurant up the road and attempted to purchase two 99s. Initially, it was a request too far, as the machine broke down mid-delivery. We took a seat whilst they administered first-aid. After repairs, they tried again – no chance! However, 20 minutes later, success, and two freshly created 99s with the obligatory flake were brought to our table.
We walked a little further along the prom, but it was far too windy and after taking a photograph of some beach-huts (which seemed to me to be quite artistic), we headed back to our room.
5.15pm: Time to chill-out and catch-up with the news. That’s it for today, we’re trying out the restaurant in the hotel later tonight because there doesn’t seem to be anywhere else nearby!
I got into blogging quite late in life, not publishing my first post until 2004 – well into my 40s! My lifelong love of technology and communication (in all its forms), together with a fondness for the art of writing seemed to be the perfect combination to contribute a few words to the online community. But I’m no Samuel Pepys! If you’re looking for deep and meaningful comments on a variety of subjects, then you’ve arrived at the wrong site! I only pen for pleasure! On average, my posts appear about twice per month, covering family & friends, cinema visits, eating out, holiday experiences and techy stuff. Oh, and as this is my hobby, there are no sponsored links nor adverts here – it’s all done with love!
I hope you find it enjoyable, interesting and occasionally, even helpful!
