Pacific Paradise – Day 1/28 (Extra)

Reading time: 2 minutes...

Sunday, 9th April:
Hello San Francisco!

Well, this is the BIG one! Probably the most varied and lengthy holiday we’ve ever taken!

As you can guess from the title, this 28-day jaunt near and around the Pacific Ocean involves land, air and yes (a lot of) sea! We originally planned to do this one a few years back, but Covid got in the way! But on a positive note, at least we’ve had plenty of time to pack!

Our Pacific Paradise began by heading to Heathrow by taxi, then taking the Virgin flight to San Francisco – we’re spending three days exploring the city. Next, it’s back on a plane to take us to Tahiti for two more days. We then pick up the Oceania Regatta for an 18-night cruise exploring French Polynesia (taking in the islands of Bora Bora, Rangiroa and Nuku Hiva). It’s then north towards the Hawaiian Islands. After twenty-six days, we disembark in Los Angeles, where we round it all off with two days in Venice Beach, before flying home to Heathrow, again courtesy of Virgin. Phew! 😁

The Argonaut Hotel, downtown San Francisco

At last, hello San Francisco! It’s 2.30pm local time and we’ve just arrived! Our plane landed 40 minutes early too! It seems like only a few hours ago, we were queuing with the masses (and trying to avoid the Easter Bunny!) at Heathrow T3, but that’s another story!

This is an extra Post that I didn’t think we’d get time to do! After almost an hour of queuing at US Immigration, the Immigration Officer was ‘Mr Charm’ himself and we were soon retrieving our luggage. We got a taxi really quickly, but then hit gridlock as we got closer to our destination. Even the taxi-driver wasn’t sure what was the cause, but he took us round some back streets, avoiding the jam and we were soon at the Argonaut Hotel – our home for the next few days. 👍

It’s a lovely hotel with a nautical theme (as you might expect, given its location) and we’re looking forward to learning more about it over the next few days.

It’s 5.10pm local time here (1.10am Kettering time), so just time for a few pics of our hotel room before we crash out! Those that know us, know that we’re normally in bed by 10pm, so 1.10am is a bit of a stretch for us!!! 😀👍

We’re impressed with the room! It’s massive and seems to have everything we need… and more! Tomorrow, it’ll be our first full day here. See you then!
