We took the 1.30 out of Kettering and got into St Pancras just after 2.30. The weekend has started well as we checked into the St Pancras Grand Hotel (and blagged a free upgrade!). We’re in room 425 with a view of the British Library from our window – nice!
We decided to jump on the Tube and head for the National Gallery for a quick look round and a quick nibble and drink before heading back for our inclusive sarnies and champagne in the Bar at 6.
We arrived at the Bar (‘The Booking Hall’) just after 6 and were quickly seated. It was already buzzing with people, and is clearly a very popular place for people to meet at the end of the working day. Service was a bit sluggish initially and we were left to reflect for a good five minutes before I had a chat with one of the staff. Not long after, the champagne arrived. Then the ‘picnic’ that was part of the package. First up, a plate of cold meats, crusty bread. Then cheese straws and savoury peanuts. Then the cheese board. And if that wasn’t enough, then they dropped of some danish pastries followed by a glass of red wine. Then, just when we thought we’d had it all, the jam, cream and scones turned up!
Phew! Just too much food! But it was good!!! I asked them to take my glass of red up to my room, and we got back, there was my glass of red together with another bottle of champagne.
Oh, and some strawberries and cream were placed on our bedside cabinets.
This has been a brilliant experience so far!
I got into blogging quite late in life, not publishing my first post until 2004 – well into my 40s! My lifelong love of technology and communication (in all its forms), together with a fondness for the art of writing seemed to be the perfect combination to contribute a few words to the online community. But I’m no Samuel Pepys! If you’re looking for deep and meaningful comments on a variety of subjects, then you’ve arrived at the wrong site! I only pen for pleasure! On average, my posts appear about twice per month, covering family & friends, cinema visits, eating out, holiday experiences and techy stuff. Oh, and as this is my hobby, there are no sponsored links nor adverts here – it’s all done with love!
I hope you find it enjoyable, interesting and occasionally, even helpful!
