An early start for me. After dropping Ann off at the station, I travelled down to Mum’s and picked her up. She’s staying with us for a week. A slightly sluggish journey there, but a better one coming back. We got back to ours just after 10. Roger, Jane and Oliver arrived about 9pm – …

Pinewood Studios
I met up with Stuart today from PI. We then went for a walk around Pinewood Studios. I saw the 007 Stage and Gerry Anderson’s car – plus, I got close-up to a load of real Oscars!!! Fantastic! Thanks Stuart…
Nicki visit/The Old Bakehouse/Mama Mia
Nicki arrived around 8am and after sampling her excellent Victoria Sponge, she and Ann went off for a pedicure. We chilled out reading the papers and then headed of for The Old Bakehouse in Rothwell (via the bra shop!) for lunch. We then caught the 3.00 performance of Mama Mia at the Odeon. It was …

Film: Kung Fu Panda
We went to the local Odeon today with Jo and Janet to see ‘Kung Fu Panda’ – the 6.50pm performance. The cinema was packed! The voice-over for the Panda was by Jack Black and it was ‘spot-on’. We got home around 9pm.
FireFox 3 installed
I’d installed FF3 on the laptop this week to try it out. It’s excellent and didn’t crash once. Not so sure it’s much faster though – although it does seem to load quicker! Based on this success, I installed it on Ann’s PC and my Dell desktop today.
ScribeFire
Discovered ScribeFire today – wow! what an excellent program for Blogging!
Annual Financial Review 2008
Chris W and I met today at home to review my finances for the year. The pension-pot is doing well, but we’ll need to tweak the investments within it to make better use of my contributions!
Lunch with Steve S
Met Steve at his house and then we walked to The Ship in Oundle for lunch. We both had a totally unhealthy ‘Ham, Double egg and chips’!!!
Doctor Who – Series 4, Episode 13 FINAL EPISODE
Well, the final episode of the current series..and no series on 2009 except for a few ‘specials’. The BBC kept a tight lid on previews (there weren’t any for the Press) and the ‘clip’ on the BBC website revealed nothing. So, what do we know already? – Donna will die– The Doctor is regenerating– They’re …

Stamford with David and Val
We met up with David and Val and headed off to Tolethorpe Hall to see an open-air production of ‘Romeo and Juliet’. Plan A was to take a picnic, but the weather forecast was predicted to be lousy so we decided instead to go to The George for a bite. Trying to book a table …

The Old Croydonians’ Association Annual Reunion
I drove to my old school today as it’s the annual reunion. On the way there, I popped in to see Mum. I couldn’t see Neil as he had just returned from working a night-shift. I also ran the first sub-committee meeting for the Centenary celebrations planned for November 2011. I got home around midnight …

Ian’s Laptop/Mae and Denis’ Car
I drove over to Ian’s today to help him get his laptop up and running. Mae and Denis heard that their Picasso is a write-off – 6k’s worth of damage!
Cheque for Car/Trouble with Trains
The cheque arrived today for Ann’s car – £2400 – a fair price. Problems at St Pancras today, so I drove over the Huntingdon to pick-up Ann and Janet.
On the move…?
Wow! That was a surprise… David and Val said they might be moving house.
Jo and Janet’s for Lunch/Ralph OK
A short walk to Jo and Janet’s for lunch today. Chris and Pete were there too and so was Carol! A brilliant lunch – we both ate far too much…but it was difficult to ignore the excellent spread!! We got back around 5.15. Porkers both!!!! Ralph’s small operation went without a hitch – that’s good …

Doctor Who – Series 4, Episode 12
Wow! I think it’s fair to say that this was an explosive episode from start to finish! In spite of all the rumours buzzing around the ‘net, it was difficult to tell WHO was playing Davros..and nothing in the credits at the end either. One surprise (for me anyway) was the Doctor regenerating at the …

Leisurely Saturday
It turned out to be a very warm and dry day today. We headed into town for a few bits and then over to Northampton to pick-up Ann’s leather jacket. We then spent a few hours in the back-garden tidying up.
Meal with Paul and Sue
We met up with Paul and Sue tonight at ‘The Old Bakehouse’ in Rothwell. We’d been once before back in March with David and Val. An excellent meal although the restaurant did get very warm towards the end of the meal. We got home around 10.30.
Doctor Who – Series 4, Episode 11
A strange title – ‘Turn Left’…but all became clear not long into the episode. This was a Doctor-lite event with DT only appearing in the opening scenes. All in all, a good episode in my view – an episode that probably would have benefited from being longer – it all seemed a bit rushed to …

Church Music – St Mary’s Church, Everdon
After the meal, we drove from Fawsley Hall to St Mary’s Church, Everdon to see and hear ‘England’s Baroque’ by Foiri Musicali (Grace Davidson – soprano). The event started at 6.30 and finished around 8.45. Overall it was a good event, but the acoustics were sometimes poor, and the orchestra drowned out the singers, making …

Fawsley Hall
We took a drive to Fawsley Hall with David and Val for a pre-arranged afternoon tea. It was a big disappointment for all of us. The service was slow and pretty lousy, there was a noisy wedding in full swing, and we didn’t think the food was all that special. Add to that, the fact …

Doctor Who – Series 4, Episode 10
Episode Title: “Midnight” A powerful episode – the one without companion, Catherine Tate in it (much) and an appearance by Patrick Troughton‘s son, David. Once again, this was another episode with some fine acting all around. Having said that, to me, it felt very odd and I can’t quite put my finger on it. Maybe …

This was part two of the story that began the week before. I’m a bit late reviewing it because of our holiday. It’s certantly wasn’t an episode where you could …
