After last week’s surprisingly good series opener together with its I-didn’t-see-that-coming-twist and subsequent cliffhanger, I was really looking forward to this episode.
Pity then, we were away on holiday in Israel! 🙄
Still, we’re not going to let a little thing like that get in the way are we? No sireee! Step forward Express VPN (that I haven’t needed since our China holiday) and the ever reliable BBC iPlayer, and we were (legally) up and running in no time! 😎
We’re off! I’m enjoying it so far, although I do think Who is at its best when they play it seriously rather than try to lighten things with a bit of comedy (even though Bradley Walsh is naturally funny). This whole ‘don’t make it too dark’ thang just doesn’t work for me.
That aside, the script and visual design kept me watching. There’s a definite improvement in the scripts compared to the previous series, and again this week, it felt less like a soap and more like a sci-fi series. That’s all good as far as I’m concerned. I still think there’s too many ‘companions’ though!
I do like the bigger story-arc that’s been introduced (Gallifrey destroyed???) – my guess is that will be referenced more than occasionally throughout this series and I hope it’s developed before this series concludes.
I might be satisfied with it all so far, but the TV Press are less than excited, with The Telegraph’s Ben Lawrence, in particular, having a real dig at the series.
So, let’s see how the remaining episodes work out. I’m erring slightly in favour of JW’s take on The Doctor ‘coming right’ eventually, but in these days of ratings-obsessed TV, I wonder how the ‘suits’ will view things???
I got into blogging quite late in life, not publishing my first post until 2004 – well into my 40s! My lifelong love of technology and communication (in all its forms), together with a fondness for the art of writing seemed to be the perfect combination to contribute a few words to the online community. But I’m no Samuel Pepys! If you’re looking for deep and meaningful comments on a variety of subjects, then you’ve arrived at the wrong site! I only pen for pleasure! On average, my posts appear about twice per month, covering family & friends, cinema visits, eating out, holiday experiences and techy stuff. Oh, and as this is my hobby, there are no sponsored links nor adverts here – it’s all done with love!
I hope you find it enjoyable, interesting and occasionally, even helpful!
