Our last full day here, and with the weather looking dry and bright (ish!), we decided to head for Bamburgh Castle.
Actually, the weather just got better and better! By the time we arrived, this big yellow thing had appeared in the sky, turning it into the perfect day for looking round the outside of the Castle. My memory is appalling, so I couldn’t recall if we’d ever been here before. Fortunately, Ann’s photographic memory confirmed that we definitely hadn’t!
Inside the Castle was just as impressive. The restoration in the early 1900s by local hero William Armstrong had done it proud, with everything in a fine condition.
And if all this wasn’t enough, there is also the Aviation Artefacts Museum with a lot of Armstrong’s inventions. After completing our tour, we headed back to the car-park and decided to take lunch in the town. The Castle Inn was where we had in mind, and it was easy to find (and park) in Front Street.
The food didn’t disappoint. Ann tucked into the Beef, while I tried the Venison. I even squeezed in a Dessert! We even managed to get a table outside where the Sun was really warm… in October! Fantastic!
Then it was back to the Cottage to begin packing for departure tomorrow.
This has been a great break. The accommodation – Breamish Valley Cottages – has exceeded our expectations in every sense. And although the weather could have been a bit brighter earlier in the week, it didn’t stop us doing what we wanted to do (although we took fewer photos!). We definitely would recommend these cottages – and this part of the UK, if you like exploring old places surrounded by gorgeous countryside. I have a strong feeling that we’ll be back again in years to come!
I got into blogging quite late in life, not publishing my first post until 2004 – well into my 40s! My lifelong love of technology and communication (in all its forms), together with a fondness for the art of writing seemed to be the perfect combination to contribute a few words to the online community. But I’m no Samuel Pepys! If you’re looking for deep and meaningful comments on a variety of subjects, then you’ve arrived at the wrong site! I only pen for pleasure! On average, my posts appear about twice per month, covering family & friends, cinema visits, eating out, holiday experiences and techy stuff. Oh, and as this is my hobby, there are no sponsored links nor adverts here – it’s all done with love!
I hope you find it enjoyable, interesting and occasionally, even helpful!
