Omid Djalili – The Castle, Wellingborough

Omid Djalili at the Castle, Wellingborough

Val, Ann and I headed off to see Omid Djalili tonight. Luckily, Ann pointed out at the last moment that it was at The Castle, Wellingborough, as I almost sailed past the A14 turning for Wellingborough, thinking it was at The Derngate – another ‘senior moment’!
Winking smile

He’s not everyone’s ‘cup-of-tea’, but he was certainly ours – by the teapot full! The last time we saw him was at the Corn Exchange back in February 2008 – and he was a knockout then. Tonight, he had the audience in stitches within about three nano-seconds of coming on stage, and it carried on that way for the whole of the 90 minutes that he was performing. Alas, no photographs were allowed – but my hands would have been shaking too much from the laughter anyway!!
Open-mouthed smile

Tonight was 99.9% new material, and once again Omid trod the fine line of finding the funny side of different national cultures with skill and sensitivity – he’s the master of this and I’m not sure that anyone else could do it quite as well as he did. For me, he’s the thinking man’s Jim Davidson!

Brilliant, just brilliant!

A word too about the rather excellent support act (embarrassingly, I’ve forgotten his name) too – he was a scream and got us all in the mood before the main act.

A great evening all round – thanks for sorting out the tickets Val!
