BBQ at Tom and Julie’s

Reading time: 2 minutes...

Come on England - maybe not Today was the first England match of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa – and what better way to spend it than over at T and J’s with one of their legendary BBQs. The weather could have been a bit warmer, but at least it wasn’t raining. All the usual crowd were there, plus a few more! I reckon there must have been 50 people there in total – I don’t know how T and J coped, but they did… very well indeed!

We arrived at around 5.45 after picking-up Jo and Janet along the way (cute cats!!!). Mum had decided she didn’t fancy a BBQ nor the footy, so she stayed at home and looked after the TV! Lee came too, and like us, did the excellent food justice. Karen had prepared coleslaw, Rosi, made some clever world-cup (cup) cakes and Ann created a monster potato salad. Tom had taken charge of the BBQ and served-up a range of goodies – beef-burgers, chicken burgers and sausages – all cooked to perfection!

By the time the match kicked-off at 7.30, we were all suitably stuffed (and watered) and ready to see how the England team fared against the USA. Predictably, we were played like we always play – great for about the first five minutes and then crap for the rest of the time. We scored first – four minutes in – and then just let USA walk all over us. How can individuals paid this obscene amount of money to do just one thing… and still deliver such a mediocre performance! I think if I was coach, I remind them of a simple three stage approach to football
‘foot…ball…net’

Simples!!

The final score was 1-1 and everyone at the BBQ agreed that we could have done better. It’ll be interesting to see what the Papers make of it all! Ho-hum, roll-on next Friday, when we’re playing Tunisia, I think.

Thanks Tom, thanks Julie – perfect hosts (as always) – we had a FAB time.
