London for the weekend – Friday

Reading time: < 1 minute...

We left for London this morning. We’re staying in London overnight because we’re going to The O2 on Saturday night to see Jeff Wayne live in concert performing The War of the Worlds.

We took the 11.25 train out of Kettering (it arrived early – shock horror!) getting into St Pancras International at 12.35. We jumped on the Tube and and the DLR heading West India Quay. By 1.30,we were all checked in at the rather superb ‘Marriott‘.

We then went in search of something to eat around the Docklands. We ended up at the Gourmet Burger Kitchen – a chain we’d not heard of before. We were shown our seat, offered a menu. From there on, it was all down to us. No waiter-service – instead you choose your burger and order it at the counter with your drinks. We waited quite a while, but it was worth the wait…the food was superb! – genuine Aberdeen Angus beef.

We then headed for Greenwich Naval College to the see The Painted Hall and The Chapel.

Absolutely stunning architecture!!

After being stunned be the architecture – down to earth with a walk around Greenwich Market. It was full of this-and-that including silk scarves; voodoo dolls; home-made necklaces; antiques hampers and old 45s turned into clocks. It was doing a brisk trade, but it all looked a bit weird to me!

We were getting tired by now and so we headed back to the Hotel on the DLR, but stopped off at Canary Wharf for a coffee and a bit of shopping in Waitrose for our carpet picnic.

We got slightly lost trying to find the Hotel from Canary Wharf, so we jumped back on the DLR – 10 seconds later, we were back at West India Quay and the Hotel – perfect!

It was time for feet up, pig-out and watch the TV for the rest of the evening.
