X Men Premiere - Days of Future Past

And so it was off to London today to meet up with ‘the gang’ – June, Angela and Antoinette – for our regular three-monthly evening meal/get-together. Originally, I’d also planned to catch up with Peter J earlier in the afternoon, but he had to cancel at the last minute.

First stop was meeting Angela at Chiquito’s in Leicester Square, where even for a Monday at 4pm, was already getting very busy – then I found out why! Just down the road at the Odeon, was the premiere of the new X-Men movie: Days of Future Past. Ironically, to stop the public ogling Hugh Jackman et al, all the restaurants close-by (including ours) with a good view of the Odeon, had big security fences in front of them covered in back cloth, so that anyone sitting outside enjoying a drink and a meal – like us – would get ZERO view of the action! Doh!!!

Antoinette joined a little later and after a quick drink and a chat, we headed off to our restaurant-of-choice – Lido – in Gerrard Street, Chinatown. The food was ‘OK’ rather than spectacular, but we made up for it with our lively conversation! Time flew, as it always does when we get together, and after the traditional confusion of splitting the bill, we said our goodbyes and headed off in the direction of the Tube.

So, all-in-all, a great evening, spoilt only by the fact that when I got back to Kettering around 11.15pm, the car had a flat battery. Luckily, there was a taxi already waiting outside the station, and I was soon home with the minimum of delay. So all I need to do is rescue the car tomorrow!
