Holiday – Muscat (Day 2)

Reading time: 2 minutes...

Sometimes difficult decisions need to be made – even on holiday – so here we are in the gym at 8am!!! Some mistake surely???

Death in Paradise?

Even by my standards (very low), this is a well-equipped gym – and better still, it was empty, so no fear of embarrassment either as I fumbled with the variety of machines. Phew! We managed 45 minutes before the urge for breakfast got the better of me, and we headed for Al Tanoor, the communal watering hole.

The selection at breakfast was vast with a peculiar ‘nod’ to western palates (and the national religion) in the shape of turkey rashers and chicken sausages (the latter just looked wrong with their anaemic appearance!)

With breakfast sorted, it was another day round the pool – but at this temperature, not the WHOLE day!  We spent about two hours before the humidity got the better of us.

The View from Sun Lounger 317

So, just after 1, we headed back to the room and the comfort of the air-conditioning. Then, after a quick pitstop, it was back to the sun-worshipping, this time from the safety of a two-person oversized inflatable ring on the advertised ‘lazy-river’ (a sort of mini-canal running around the resort with its own current – so no effort required! Great fun and an easy – and lazy – way to take in the local area without the effort of walking!)

No Effort Required!

By 3.30 we were all ‘sunned-out’, and so it was back to base for another chill-out. For some reason, the hotel had left us a bottle of Merlot ‘for inconvenience caused’. We’re not sure what they were referring to, but we didn’t want to confuse them by sending it back – the wine tasted good!

For our evening meal, we ate at the Tapas Bar. It was all very tasty and eating outside with the sound of the sea lapping against the sand with a local guitarist and drummer/singer performing Arabic songs made it extra special. Nice!!!!

The Tapas Bar with Perfect Weather for Eating Outside

Tomorrow we’re on an all-day tour to Nizwa about an hour-and-a-half from our location. It’s a historical tour called Fascinating Forts and in part, as the title suggests, takes in the major Forts of Oman.
