Has Bean – The End of an Era

The Bean Counter

For almost 20+ years, my good mate Nick, who is also our family bean-counter – sorry, our Accountant – has made the annual pilgrimage here to finalise the business figures for the business-year-just-gone. So, today was a bit of a milestone as this was his very final visit – ever! as I had retired on 1st January.

Over the years, we’d settled into a predictable, but enjoyable routine. First priority? a bacon roll (or three!) and a coffee followed by a general chat, before getting down to the serious business of learning what tax-bill will be, putting right any errors in my record keeping and finally running off a P&L and Balance Sheet to complete the process.

We’d always ending our meetings by looking ahead, and discussing what the coming year might look like in terms of opportunities. So, slightly watery-eyed, we skipped this final stage before shaking hands and saying our good-byes. We’re still be staying in touch as mates, but I’m going to miss the rigours of our annual business get-together – and I’m sure bacon and coffee-bean sales will now be dropping significantly!!!!

Off to the Bank now to close the Business Account…
